I was thrilled to have recently receive this private email (abridged) from the very charming Chief Justice of Fiji, Anthony Gates, about my book ‘Redeeming Moti’. Dear Dr Merrell, I have been meaning to drop you a line. I read the book straight after your book launch here in Suva. I read it over 2 days. It was a very brave book. It was clear, simple, and shocking. It told of a very bad chapter in the annals of the Australian Foreign Service. Everybody behaved badly, really badly. The journalist, the Human Rights’ Commissioner, the Prime Minister and the abuses.

By PNG Echo It is, by now, well known that, last weekend, this journalist was refused entry into Papua New Guinea (PNG) by order of the Prime Minister. It was heavy handed, provocative and ultimately an exercise in futility. May I remind the Prime Minister that there have been very successful revolutions enacted remotely – the Ayotollah Khomeini effected the Iranian revolution from enforced exile in Paris, for instance.   In PNG, political revolution is not called for – the government was democratically elected and ought to be free to do its job.
